Which flowers should you give for a birthday?
There is no single right formula for a birthday bouquet. Three things usually make the choice easier: the recipient’s taste, where the celebration will take place and how much you plan to spend on flowers.

The recipient’s taste is the best starting point
If you know their favourite flowers or colours, choosing is easy. If you do not, try remembering which flowers you have seen in their home or which ones they tend to give to others.
If those particular flowers are not available that day, you can create a similar mood through colour.
If you do not know their taste, choose a mood
Start with a simple choice: a soft, understated bouquet or a bright one? White and pale pink tones make a more restrained arrangement, while a combination of several bright colours makes a stronger statement. In either case, what matters most is a colour combination you like and think will make the recipient happy.
Look at the bouquet as a whole. Do you like its shape and colours? Can you picture it in the recipient’s home? This can be a personal way to choose, too.
Choose a bouquet that fits the day’s plans
A bouquet given at work will stay with the recipient all day and then travel home. It should not be too large. A compact arrangement can also be more convenient at a restaurant, while a larger bouquet usually causes little trouble when visiting someone at home. Floway bouquets come in water reservoirs, which are particularly handy when a vase is not immediately available.
Your flower budget
A budget does not have to feel like a restriction. It simply helps you focus on a choice that feels right for that particular person. The Floway shop shows the current selection and prices for each machine, so you can compare bouquets in one place.
Does the bouquet need a card?
A card is optional, but it makes the gift feel more personal. If you decide to include one, the message does not have to be long. A few words you would say to the recipient in person are enough. It could be a shared memory, a wish for a particular plan or a simple, heartfelt greeting.
- “Happy birthday! May the year ahead bring you more time for the things that truly make you happy.”
- “I’m so glad you’re in my life. May your day be as beautiful as you are.”
- “Warmest wishes from all of us! May even the dreams you haven’t shared out loud come true.”
The birthday recipient can collect the bouquet themselves
Sometimes the loveliest surprise is a message saying a bouquet is waiting nearby. If you cannot be there on their birthday, you can forward the collection code for a bouquet bought online. They can then collect it from the chosen Floway machine.
Floway’s gift guide explains how to forward the collection code to another person. In this case, it helps to know the recipient’s plans for the day so you can choose the most convenient Floway flower vending machine and make sure they can collect their gift within three hours.
